ABOUT THE BOOK
Witches Protection Program

Written by Michael Okon

Publisher’s Synopsis: Wes Rockville, a disgraced law-enforcement agent, gets one last chance to prove himself and save his career when he’s reassigned to a 232-year-old secret government organization.

The Witches Protection Program.

His first assignment: uncover a billion-dollar cosmetics company’s diabolical plan to use witchcraft for global domination, while protecting its heiress Morgan Pendragon from her aunt’s evil deeds. Reluctantly paired with veteran witch protector, Alastair Verne, Wes must learn to believe in witches…and believe in himself.

Filled with adventure and suspense, Michael Okon creates a rousing, tongue-in-cheek alternate reality where witches cast spells and wreak havoc in modern-day New York City.

MY REVIEW

GOOD WITCH, BAD WITCH

Witches Protection Program

Written by Michael Okon

Wes Rockville is berated by his father, Harris, who is the head of an elite detective division. Wes and his team have just lost a prisoner and Harris is furious about his son’s failure. Wes receives a new assignment, which is to be his last chance. He is disappointed but not surprised. After all, Wes is constantly compared to his successful siblings.

Wes takes the subway to the Dumbo neighborhood in Brooklyn, where he will enter a world he could never imagine. He walks into a room full of high-tech equipment and is shown a film about witches. Wes discovers that twenty-first-century witches are real and that he has been assigned to the Witches Protection Program. He enters a fast-moving world of good witches, Davinas, and bad witches, Willas.

Wes will experience an adventure he could never conceive of. The plot involves an international conspiracy, a bit of romance, steampunk and a crime novel rolled into one. Characters are fanciful but believable and compelling. Readers are gripped as the story evolves with many twists and turns along the way. Recommended for young adult and adult readers who enjoy crime novels, fantasy, adventure, science fiction and romance.

MY REVIEW

A DOG’S LIFE

Brina, a Scottish terrier lives with another dog, Winnie, and her human family. One day she is watching Genevieve playing a game when Genevieve remarks that Brina looks almost human. That gets Brina thinking about what it would be like to be a human. She imagines herself going to school, doing homework, playing on the swings and having a snack. Brina asks Winnie what she would do as a human and Winnie imagines a day at the office. As the story continues, a local squirrel and the dog next door imagine their own scenarios as a human.

By the end of the tale, Brina and Winnie decide maybe a dog’s life is not so bad, after all. This picture book contains simple, expressive digital art and simple text that is appropriate for a bedtime story or read aloud. Beginning readers will be able to tack the story independently. Recommended for readers ages three through seven.

My Review:

The author is an LPGA golf instructor. She has written this book to help children understand the game of golf and to encourage them to have a positive attitude when playing sports.

Izzy and Alice are two friends who enjoy playing golf. On this beautiful day, they are with their coach, Jenn, at the golf course. Izzy is doing well, but Alice is having difficulty with her shots. Alice is embarrassed and disappointed with her game. Jenn encourages Alice to think positive thoughts. Izzy, on the other hand, takes her hits and misses in stride. I like the way Alice struggles to succeed and learns not to give up. Izzy is a good friend who tries to support her. Children learn about the game of golf and the value of persistence and practice. Many children give up too easily when they do not immediately succeed in a sport.

The illustrations remind me of bobblehead figures. There are lots of animals popping up all over the golf course. I would have liked to have seen a glossary with some golf vocabulary to help readers who have never played golf understand the game better.

Recommended particularly for readers ages six through ten.

I received a copy of this book and voluntarily agreed to read and review for the Children’s Book Review and author Jenn Holt with my honest opinions for this blog tour.

A SINCERE THANK YOU AND HAPPY HOLIDAYS

Dear Readers,

It’s almost the end of 2018. Can you believe it? This year has absolutely flown by and as I reflect on this year, I wanted to share some things I am grateful for:

1. I published a new book this year. Little Miss HISTORY Travels to The NORTH POLE.

Check out what others have to say:

This is a book written for children, and its appeal is undeniable. I loved the chatty style that subtly hides the “educational” aspect, but Barbara Ann Mojica sets out to teach and she succeeds. I learned a lot I didn’t know, and any child would absorb the fascinating facts so clearly and entertainingly explained, and, of course, drawn in by the promise of finding out about Santa Claus. By the time they can read and understand this enchanting book, they know he’s make-believe, isn’t he? He has many other names dug from the mists of time by Little Miss History. Little Miss History Travels to the North Pole is the perfect Christmas gift, and sure to be welcomed by schools at any time. _ Sarah Stuart Reader’s Favorite 5 Stars

Little Miss History Travels to the North Pole” should be on top of YOUR holiday reading list! It will kindle your holiday spirit and your children will learn something useful. The clever informative illustrations and fun but an educational story will charm and educate your kids for hours. Please take a chance on this book and have fun traveling to the North Pole with Little Miss History! – Mrs.D

Chock-filled with interesting facts, there are tons of gateways for discussions from all the brave people who explored to discovering fun facts about Santa Claus.
Highly recommended.
Carole P. Roman

I love books that teach me something in a fun way! Many of us know that the North Pole is not on land, but this author has a wonderful way of presenting her material. The book is well-researched and honestly admits where there are uncertainties or dual opinions. She includes little known or unknown information, and the illustrations make learning fun. What a joy to read Little Miss History books! And the North Pole is non-commital about tying Santa Claus to any religion. A wonderful work! – Ann Morris

2.. I received a Book Excellence Award for Little Miss HISTORY Travels to MOUNT VERNON in the children’s non-fiction category.

3. I received three honors in The International Readers Favorite Book Award Contest. A Gold Medal in children’s nonfiction for Little Miss HISTORY Travels to Ford’s Theater,  a silver medal for Little Miss HISTORY Travels to MOUNT VERNON in children’s educational books, and honorable mention for Little Miss HISTORY Travels to La Brea Tar Pits & Museum in the children’s 4th to 6th-grade category.

4. MOST OF ALL, I AM GRATEFUL FOR A SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY OF READERS, JUST LIKE YOU!

I hope you have a very happy holiday and I wish you all the best for a wonderful and prosperous New Year!

Barbara

Who was George Washington?

Washington is best known as America’s first president, but he was also a military hero. If you asked George Washington what he really wanted to be, he would reply, “a farmer.” Seeking to revolutionize antiquated 18th-century farming methods, Washington experimented with crop rotation, fertilizers, plowing, and plants. The Mount Vernon Ladies Association began restoring his estate to its former glory in 1853. Today the buildings, grounds, and The Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center reveal the real Father of the United States of America.
