Barbara Ann Mojica, Children’s Author, Historian, Speaker

“If you don’t know your history, you don’t know what you’re talking about.”

My History:

Barbara Ann Mojica, M.A. S.A.S., S.D.A is a historian and retired educator. Her education career spans more than forty years serving as a teacher, special educator, principal, and school district administrator. Barbara writes monthly historical articles for the Columbia Insider under the banner “Passages.” Using the whimsical Little Miss History character to narrate her book series, Barbara hopes to educate, entertain and inspire children to learn about historical people and places. Little Miss History’s antics make reading nonfiction a fun-filled adventure for all ages. She firmly believes, “If you don’t know your history, you don’t know what you’re talking about.”

The most important thing the author wants readers to gain from her books:

My mission is to inspire, educate, and entertain children by making learning about history fun and educational. I use a cartoon-like character, Little Miss HISTORY, to narrate adventures that explore national parks, national monuments, and other sites of historical interest. I hope that families will be able to discover new ideas and experience our rich historical heritage.

Why the author is an authority on the subject of her book:

I have forty years’ experience in the fields of elementary education with certifications in grades nursery through 6th grade, special education, and school administration. During my career, I taught every grade from preschool through grade seven, taught and served as a special education teacher and principal, taught students with reading disabilities, and worked one on one using applied behavioral analysis with autistic children. My classroom programs can be adapted to any type of setting and I am willing to work with teachers to tailor a program to their classroom curriculum. I have undergraduate and graduate degrees in history and currently write monthly historical articles for a local news magazine.

The Little Miss HISTORY book series has garnered over two dozen awards, including B.R.A.G. Medallions, International Book Excellence Awards, International Readers’ Favorite Awards, Eric Hoffer, and Independent Author Network Awards.
