Little Miss HISTORY Travels to INTREPID Sea, Air & Space Museum
by Barbara Ann Mojica
Where can you explore life on a submarine, an aircraft carrier and Outer Space all in one place? At the INTREPID Sea, Air, and Space Museum visitors can watch a movie showing Japanese Kamikaze attacks, view actual WW II planes, and explore the Growler, a nuclear submarine. One can climb into a Huey helicopter or view the Space Shuttle Enterprise. Learn how the Intrepid rescued space capsules from the ocean, and cruised the seas searching for Russian submarines during the Cold War. After being rescued from the scrap heap, Intrepid again rose to glory by serving as the FBI command center after the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center in New York City. Witness one ship’s amazing history, and the sacrifices of those who fought to keep the USA safe and free!

This looks like a fun one, Barbara. You know, I live in Manhatten and have never visited the Intrepid, though I’ve seen it lots of times.

Thanks for visiting….I think that lots of us tend to ignore things that are close by and most familiar.

This is a new series to me. How does the character interact with the location? Is there a broader overall story as well? Sounds interesting. Thanks for sharing with the #KidLitBlogHop!

Miss History is a wannabe park ranger who guides the adventure to historic places and events. She interacts with the location through actual photographs and beautiful hand drawn illustrations. The books are written by a historian; they are nonfiction picture books relating the history of that site which, in itself, is the broader story.

Thanks so much for your good wishes. I always welcome feedback and value any suggestions that my readers may have. When you talk about text and background, are you talking about the format of my blog page or the books in the Little Miss HISTORY book series? What specifically makes you uncomfortable and what do you suggest?

Just light text on a dark background make the whole thing swirl for me….it’s called visual stress and dyslexics can also get this with these colour choices. Purely a suggestion and I mean no ill will. X
